Food Security Project Manager

Sustainable Harvest is looking for a Project Manager to lead an innovative food security project in Kigoma, Tanzania that tests the effects of drip irrigation technologies on crop yields. The Project Manager will manage staff, ensure project milestones are completed in accordance with donor guidelines, provide financial oversight, and evaluate the success of the project. A typical day might include a meeting with hydro-engineers to gauge progress on a construction site, driving to a village to discuss next steps with local leaders, and an afternoon in the office reconciling cash expenses for the month. The Project Manager must exhibit strong leadership and decision-making skills, organizational ability, plus flexibility and a sense of humor.

The position will be based in Kigoma, Tanzania and requires a commitment through the end of the project cycle November, 2012.

Specific responsibilities include:
-Create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements
-Ensure all project milestones are met by the required deadlines
-Develop and manage project budget
-Forecast monthly monetary needs and tracks expenses
-Manage and oversee all project staff including outsourced consultants to ensure that project goals are completed within schedule
-Provide direction and support to the project team
-Coordinate regional government, with village authorities, and project beneficiaries to implement project activities
-Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation tools in accordance with proposal indicators
-Write progress reports on project activities, milestones, challenges and successes in accordance with donor requirements
-Assist with administrative duties in the Kigoma office, and other tasks as required

Qualifications:
-Advanced degree and 2-5 years work experience
-Familiarity working in East Africa, preferably Tanzania
-Fluency in Swahili and English
-Ability to troubleshoot and solve challenges as they arise
-Must be highly organized, independent and trustworthy
-Ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders
